Strength in Constant Motion
Nina Mickelsen

Nina Mickelsen 2015 Ocean Breeze mixed media 24" x 24"

Artist Statement

In this exhibition, I explore the juxtaposition of controlled shapes and natural, free strokes - the relation between the perfect and the imperfect, the contradiction between discipline and abandon. Constant forward motion alleviates the discomfort of contradictions, of changes we make in our lives, voluntarily or forced... N.M.

About The Artist

As a Finland native, Ms. Mickelsen grew up with Nordic and Scandinavian design- bright colors, bold shapes, and crisp, strong lines. Seeking inspiration from both nature and contemporary design, she seeks to convey strength and motion and draws to explore the juxtaposition of controlled shapes with natural free strokes. After a long, international business career in both Europe and the US, she went on to study printmaking, painting, and graphic design at the Corcoran School of Art and Design, The George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. Her work exhibitions in galleries and juried art shows along the East Coast, from New York to Florida.
