Experiment with pencils and charcoal, marker pens and brushes,

Using personal photos from the student's own supply, the class

Starting with simple, but challenging exercises about the parts
of a house and how best to depict them, we shall develop these
into your own individual house portrait. The medium chosen may
be pencil, charcoal, watercolor, pen and ink, or other. In all
of them we shall consider color, light and shade, value, and
texture as we put the home in its environment, including foliage
and other distinctive characteristics.
Demo, handouts, and visuals will add to your success in making
your home come alive on paper, and be a memento for a long time
to come.

A new take on an old art

WATER SCENES IN PASTEL
All levels, age 15 - adults
with Dolores Andrew
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced pastel artist,
water scenes will eventually challenge you and demand to be
captured. Since water is colorless, often moving and changeable,
representing it in pastel, as in all other media, can be a
daunting experience. Using field trips, as weather permits, to
the quiet-to-active water around us, we shall discuss and
investigate ways to depict this exciting element of nature.
Other aspects of composition will also be covered, such as
foliage, skies, and the perspective of structures. Demo and
critique will be offered daily. On-site locations will be used
as weather permits, and gradually water in pastel will no longer
be a mystery.

FINE ART ETCHING AND INTRODUCTION
TO LINOLEUM CUT PRINTMAKING
All levels, age 16 to adults
with John C. Murray
The Rehoboth Art League is pleased to announce that once again
John Murray will be offering his popular fine art printmaking
class that explores drypoint and etching with ferric chloride.
All chemistries are low or non-toxic as much as is possible with
the available chemistry of the day. Experience the many
centuries old techniques practiced by Masters of the past-
Rembrandt, Durer, Goya. Together we will learn all the basics of
printmaking: hand tools, inks, paper, the press, and chemicals.
All the information you need to do the same fine art. You will
draw images on a copper plate, ink the plate, run it through the
printing press under tremendous pressure, and produce a
fine-art, Dry Point or etched print. Additionally, students will
have the opportunity to create and carve an image on a linoleum
block, ink the block and make a print from it. John has been
doing printmaking for almost thirty years, and has studied the
techniques to the deepest levels. His light, dry sense of humor
will help all to have a positive experience for the time spent
together. Former students are welcome to sign up for the class,
but use the time to continue developing their printmaking
expertise and skill levels.

All levels, age 15 to adults
with Carrie Ida Edinger
In this hands on printmaking workshop, you will create prints
without the use of chemicals by using non-toxic water-based
inks. Printmaking techniques to be covered include screen
printing, collagraphs, and block printing. Using the prints that
you create we will explore different mediums, textures,
manipulation of materials, adhesives, and layout to create
contemporary collage pieces. The processes that are learned in

or add techniques to your own art.

MONOTYPE AND MONOPRINT
All levels, age 16 to adults
with John C. Murray
If you are a painter, you will truly love this workshop! If you
have never painted or done printmaking, you will experience the
pure joy of discovering creative potentials you never knew you
had! These techniques are among the most "painterly" of the
offerings of printmaking. Water based inks are painted on a
plate, then it is pressed against printmaking paper to reveal a
printed image. Subsequent transparent or opaque colors may be
added to the image, and also blended for a more creative result.
We will work together in this workshop to ensure everyone
understands the process, technique, and methods employed. Each
participant will print their own images after a brief
instruction and demonstration. Only non-toxic chemistries are
used in this class. Bring a bag lunch.
