Description of the Pairings Exhibition

As part of the Rehoboth Art League’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, the Exhibitions and Collections committee has compiled an exhibition featuring a number of works as the Heritage Artists Exhibition. These works from our collections reflect the long history and deep commitment of RAL artists to the league, to the larger community beyond and to the role of artists in developing and sustaining a culture within a society. This special 75th anniversary exhibition will open on June 14th 2013.

Works from this exhibition, as well as others from our collection, are to be highlighted in a series of smaller group shows commencing July 19, 2013 called PAIRINGS. We hope to explore more subtle or even obscure connections contemporary artists and artisans have with both the League and its collections. The Exhibitions and Collections committee invites Rehoboth Art League members to peruse our collections catalog for possibilities and submit your ideas for a PAIRING show. We have a few ideas of our own. And between us, we hope to stage a year-long series of small shows in The Little Gallery (dimensions 9’ x 9’) within the Corkran that will reveal us to ourselves.

The “PAIR” in this case is the evidence of history in juxtaposition to current application. For example: An Ethel P. B. Leach illustration - which includes a small still life of objects on a table paired with comparable clay and/or glassworks by current RAL members. The possible permutations are many. It might be about ‘two’ but it could also be about ‘three, four or five.’

Below you will find the images of selected works from the collection available to be “paired” with. These images are also available at the Rehoboth Art League. Click here for the application.
