Constance Costigan is Professor of Fine Arts Emeritus at George Washington University.  She is a Delaware By Hand Master.  Her works are in such major collections as the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Phillips collection, the University of Iowa Museum, the George Washington University Permanent Collection, and other public and private collections in the U.S. and abroad. She was the subject of a one person show and catalogue at the Phillips collection. Her works have been exhibited in one person and group shows in New York, Washington, Philadelphia, and Cleveland, as well as England, Scotland and India.

Costigan, the winner of numerous jurors’ awards, has received fellowships from the Ossabaw Island foundation, the MacDowell Colony, the Hereward Lester Cooke Foundation, and the George Washington University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Facilitating Fund. She was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.) in London, England, and has served as Distinguished Visiting Professor at the American University in Cairo.

A frequent lecturer and juror for art programs, Costigan has conducted numerous workshops at educational and arts organizations. She received her B.S. from Simmons College and the Boston Museum School, and her M.A. in painting from American University in Washington, D.C.

“Costigan’s latest series of paintings, drawings and pastels reveal Costigan’s inventive reprisal of the theme of energized imaginary spaces. Costigan thrives on depicting the invisible. Energy and matter, the universe in a constant state of flux, are invisioned in her singularly transcendent images.”
