COMMEMORTATIVE SHIRT
TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR THE
ART LEAGUE'S PERMANENT COLLECTION
As part of its mission to preserve the rich
cultural heritage of Delaware art, the Rehoboth Art League has
collected artwork from many Delaware Artists since 1940. Today, the League owns over 200 paintings,
watercolors, prints, sculpture, pottery and fiber art. It pursues
opportunities to feature and exhibit the collection, and ensures
they are preserved for future generations.
To help raise funds to support the care of the permanent collection,
the Rehoboth Art League is selling a special t-shirt at the outdoor
show, featuring the artwork of Howard Schroeder.

“Art League” Oil by Howard Schroeder, 1988
Howard Schroeder (1910-1995), a nationally known
artist who lived in Lewes, was an active member of the Rehoboth
Art League for many decades. As a teacher, he influenced hundreds of artists in
the area. He is best known for his images of Delaware: its
beaches, waterways, towns, and personalities. He loved to paint
outdoors, and many in the Rehoboth-Lewes area can recall an encounter
with Howard as he was painting alongside a road or near the canal. Howard
was a regular artist at the Art League’s Outdoor show. In fact,
it was his idea to start up this tradition at the League; indicating
that the indoor exhibition space was not enough to showcase all of
the artwork. The image he painted above represents the
Outdoor Show as he saw it in 1988.
The shirts will be available in several sizes
during the outdoor show at the member’s tent and in the Corkran
Gallery. The
original painting is on loan from Logan Short (grandson of Howard
Schroeder) and will be on display at the Corkran Gallery during the
show.
