Class Information
This watercolor class is designed for both beginners and those looking to enhance their skills and understanding of the medium. Participants will explore a variety of tips, techniques, and styles to create stunning artworks. The curriculum includes painting forests with their vibrant autumn colors and elongated shadows, utilizing sea sponges to capture the enchanting dappled light characteristic of fall. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to depict seasonal elements such as pumpkins and pets, as well as the natural splendor of Prime Hook during the fall migration of snow geese. Throughout the demonstrations, I will provide clear, step-by-step guidance on various techniques that can be applied to your own paintings.

- To practice drawing and take notes, students need a mix media drawing notebook along with essential items like water container, pencil, kneaded eraser, palette knife, viva paper towels, misting bottle, sea sponge, liquid masking fluid, and resource photos.
- For watercolor painting, students should have brushes like sable, squirrel, synthetic, or a mix of these materials in round sizes #12, 8, 6, and 4, as well as a rigger or liner brush with thin, long hair #3, a few flat brushes in sizes 3/4 inch, 1″, and 2″, and mop brushes made with squirrel hair.

It is advised to use 100% cotton watercolor paper like Arches 140 LB. white, Winsor Newton 140lb. paper, Kilimanjaro watercolor paper, Fabriano watercolor paper, Saunders Waterford watercolor paper, or Traditional by Hahnemuhle. Size of paper a block of 12 “ by 16” fits most standard mats and frames.
- Good brands for watercolor paints to consider are Winsor Newton, Holbein, DaVinci, MaimeriBlu, Graham, Daniel Smith, Schmincke, Grumbacher, and Sennelier.
