Class Information
There are so many inspirational places to paint in Rehoboth and Lewes. Join Walt Bartman for his eighteenth year of painting Gordon’s Pond, figures and fisherman at the beach, and the town of Lewes and its marshes. Walt will lecture on landscape drawing, composition and how to see and work with color outdoors. Each day will focus on different subjects. He will demonstrate how to paint boats, water, architecture, and the figure. This popular course is for all levels of students and all mediums: oil, acrylic, or watercolor.
Supply List
Paints, Acrylic or Oil, and watercolor / gouache: Burnt Sienna, Titanium White, Ivory Black, Cadmium Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Viridian Green or Pythalo Green, Cerulean Blue, and Ultramarine Blue, Pythalo Blue
Mediums for oils: Poppy oil or Linseed oil, Retarder for acrylics… spray bottle for water-based mediums.
Brushes: Filberts, Flats and Rounds # 4, #8 & #12 or larger. Recommended bushes: white bristle flats, Montgomery Brushes are a good brush from Plaza Artist Materials in Bethesda. I like Princeton Aspen Brushes, especially the filberts. For Watercolor: squirrel Hair, synthetic Sable brushes
Canvases: Bring a variety (6 at least) of canvases measuring, (4) 9″x12″ or larger. (16″ x 20″ preferable). students produce 1- 2 paintings a day, so please bring a variety of sizes of canvases…working on larger surfaces, I would recommend 20 x 30″. Panels over canvas are recommended for Plein Air Painting. FOR WATERCOLORISTS: Arches watercolor block, 140lb., 16 x 20 or smaller…Gouache: Mi Tientes Art Board by Canson, black, gray and buff.
Equipment: Potable easel, 11″ x 14′ or larger Palette, 11″ x 14″ or larger Sketchbook, Compressed Charcoal, Pencils, Erasers. Folding Chair, Sun Umbrella, Hat, Sunscreen, Bug off, Bungee cords, tape, Water or mineral container, drop cloth. Odorless Mineral Spirits, we cannot use turpentine or any other solvent that releases fumes. (Gamsol or turpenoid recommended). Rags or towels
