Class Information
If you are new to painting with either medium or haven’t painted in a while and need a refresher, LEVEL ONE is a great place to begin. It’s challenging, but not overly so, and it creates an excellent foundation for the next level…Level Two.
You will learn how oil and acrylic paint work, (they are not that different). For example, when to use medium vs. thinner, how to layer paintings and the basics of glazing (yes, you can glaze in acrylics), toning, and mixing color. The instructor will provide the source photos and will work with each student individually and meet them at their current skill level. While you will learn about both mediums—you will paint in only one.

You will learn about both mediums—you will paint in only one. Students bring their own materials. Please bring materials only for the medium of your choice, which should include:

Please use Professional Grade Paints. They are cheaper in that they last much longer–and results are much better.
If you only have student grade, that’s ok for now.

A steel “Brush Washer Cup” for Oil painters. (Acrylic painters just need two containers for water)
Liquitex Matte Medium (for acrylic painters). (REQUIRED)
Cold Pressed Linseed Oil, or other type of Linseed Oil (for oil painters)
A panel or canvas of 12”x 16” which is big enough to breathe, but small enough to finish.
A Palette or Palette Paper Pad – at least 12×16 inches. Smaller is just too small. (If you are buying a palette pad, get gray if available, otherwise white is fine.)
Brushes: Some Rounds and some Long Flats.
