The Art League’s Outdoor Show dates back to 1973 when local and summer artists in art ‘community’ sought to add some new events during the summer months. Under the direction of Nanette Currie Cunliffe artists set-up their work along fences and welcomed the public. It was an instant success and soon became the most anticipated summer art event in the area.

The 41st Annual Outdoor Art Show will be August 9 & 10 and August 16 & 17, 2014. Saturday the hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m and on Sundays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Over 130 artists and artisans from the Mid-Atlantic region will display and sell their fine art and fine crafts amidst the 3.5-acre historic wooded location in Henlopen Acres. The work is exceptional as the artists are juried for this event. Many of the artists enjoy demonstrating their creativity during each day of the show. Most of the artists are set-up in white tents and some display their work along snow fences adding a touch of the history of the show.

The Outdoor Show is not just an art show but is a fun summer event for the family with great food, music, face-painting, artist demonstrations, two art exhibitions in the galleries, the historic Homestead and gardens to stroll through and new this year Dogfish Head Bier Garten.

New this year is a behind-the-scenes tour with Executive Director, Sheila Bravo. The historic campus includes the 1743 Peter Marsh Homestead, the 1780 Paynter Studio, galleries and the beautiful formal gardens. They are preserved for all to enjoy, and to gain a glimpse of the rich history of southern Delaware. Meet at the Paynters Studio at 2 PM - held each day of the show to learn about the famous Doors of Fame and the RAL history.

All of the League’s galleries and studios are open. We hope you enjoy lunch  at Nage’s café in the Chambers Building, lite fare and coffees at The Point across from the Corkran Galley, Lemonade outside the Children’s Studio and in the  afternoon join Dogfish Head in the Homestead Garden for beer, music and DPR live broadcast.

Take time out from enjoying the art and purchasing fine art and crafts to watch RAL potters demonstrate their fine craft, have your face painted by artist Sherry Biele at booth # 62 and stop by to watch a Styrofoam Sculpture demo by artist Pam Foss just outside the Children’s Studio.

We are very grateful to the show sponsors and the many volunteers who have graciously given up their weekends to help support this program. This show would not be possible without their time and dedication.

TICKETS: There is an entry fee of $5 per adult per weekend. There is no charge for children under the age of 12. This year tickets may also be purchased in advance at Tickets may also be purchased at the show all four days.

PAYMENT FOR ARTWORK: With current technology, many artists are now able to process payments themselves with wireless and cell phone devices.  Some artist have been requesting a change in the Art League’s payment procedures to permit them to receive direct payment from customers.  Therefore in 2014, the process for purchasing art is changing for the many artists exhibiting in the Outdoor show.  Artists in booth numbers 1-36, 51-78, and 97-109  can received direct payment.  Artists in booth numbers 37-46, 79-96, and 113-132  will hand customers a sales slip and payment can be made at a cashier station close by.
