September 23, 2023

Camp Arrowhead
6:00pm – 12:00 am

The Rehoboth Art League’s historic Beaux Arts Ball returns for this, our 85th anniversary year! Join us as event Co-Chair L. Drexel Davison gathers the community for an evening of creativity and celebration. Food, drink, and fun await at this themed ball, which takes the French Impressionist movement as its inspiration. As part of the event’s history, costumes are encouraged, but not required.

Event History
The Beaux Arts Balls are a tradition borrowed from the namesake Parisian École des Beaux-Arts and popularized in American art academies in the late 19th century. These costume balls have become known for their elaborate dress and costume, and denoted creative, even scandalous, communities of forward-thinking people. Once the highlight of the summer social season, the Rehoboth Art League’s Ball became more of a rarity toward the end of the 20th century, with the last one being held in 2013. A decade later, we are excited to revive this event, and will be holding our evening’s festivities at Camp Arrowhead in Lewes.

Event Beneficiaries
Though the Art League has many exhibitions, events, and programs year-round, the Beaux Arts Ball will stand out this year as one of our most important fundraisers. Proceeds from the event will support our Arts Outreach program, which brings free arts education opportunities to underserved communities around Sussex County. Qualified Art League instructors coordinate scheduled afterschool and summer camp classes in community centers, libraries, and schools to bring children hands-on experiences in projects such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, mosaics, jewelry-making, mixed media, and more. By expanding students’ experiences and expanding their knowledge base, the Rehoboth Art League’s Outreach program supports academic achievement and personal development.

Transportation
Parking is available onsite or hop onto a Jolly Trolley shuttle at Love Creek Elementary School. Service, which is provided compliments of RAL, begins at 5:45pm and makes loops to Camp Arrowhead throughout the evening.
