Fiber work by New Image Artists

New Image Artists was founded in 1980 with eight members. At that time they were known as the New Image Quilters. Their goal was artistic expression through quilted pieces meant for exhibition rather than the traditional use as bed coverings. The group faced an uphill battle in getting quilts accepted as art since most people associated quilts with a home based scrap craft and not an artistic endeavor. The group’s first show, at the Art Barn in Washington, D.C. broke all gallery attendance records. The group maintains a current membership of twelve juried artists and this exhibition will showcase collaborative challenges and a variety of interpretations.
