Works by Temre Stanchfield

April 5, 2024 – May 5, 2024

Tubbs Gallery

Opening Reception: Friday, April 5, 2024 (5 to 7pm)

Temre uses the calendar around which to develop 12 abstract paintings that are made in gratitude for the natural world. Temre describes her creative process as similar to the experience of communing with nature – the peacefulness, stillness, and a glimpse of the interconnection of all things. Temre draws inspiration from the landscape throughout the seasons near her home studio which inform textures and shapes found in her paintings. A painting begins by laying out a patchwork pattern that symbolizes earth; garden plots, crops and grassland.  Skinny horizontal strips at the top represent sky, air.   Color develops beyond the natural realm, into an orchestra of hues and rays that evoke an atmosphere of harmony.  The homage paintings are created and installed in the round to suggest the ongoing perennial cycle, inspiring the idea of eternity, renewal.

Temre is a project based painter and has shown her artwork throughout the United States. She received her MFA from the University of Arizona in 2000 and taught drawing and painting classes for many years until transitioning into making artwork fulltime. Currently, Temre works out of her studio in Southern PA where she gardens and walks her dog at the Nature Lands Preserve.
