Creating Light With Paint

Class Information

Learn Color Mixing, and the Language of Color—but with a focus on creating the Illusion of light and luminosity. Students may use Oil, Acrylic, or Watercolor – Demonstrations will be done in Oil. Unlike real-life, a phone, or a TV, a painting has no light other than what is reflected off the surface. The effect of feeling like something is “lit” or of a sunrise, is an illusion that is created by how colors are combined that fools the mind into believing something is shining in the flat surface of your canvas. In this class you will learn how to think of color in a way that enables you to create such illusions—and you will have hours to practice what you’ve learned with the help of your teacher, Barry Koplowitz, who will work with everyone at their own level of experience and skill.
